Abstract

The focus of this project is a case study analysis of the death-related rituals evident through archaeological remains of a thirteenth-century Spanish burial site. This research is significant because the site lacks literary records; thus, one must rely on material culture and physical evidence to piece together the site’s history. A portion of the research for this project stemmed from research conducted during July 2024 for an archaeological field school. This project will address the prompt in an academic way that is suitable to the general norms of American research. In as many words, there will be no pictures of human remains in the academic poster. This argument attempts to demonstrate the importance of using archaeological material culture in a burial setting to better understand theological principles and broader historical notions and characterizations of death.
