Abstract

The world has a lot of good, but there are some events to learn from in our history. Some of these events are seen in baseball and become more evident in the spaces in which baseball has been played. The game was segregated until 1947, and leagues started by African Americans as a result show the effects of segregation and tell a story of empowerment for these players despite the hardships they faced through the spaces where they played. The “white” baseball world has also faced changes. Integration, expansion, rule changes, and regulations to keep a level playing field all contribute to a rapid shift in the game. These stories can come together to tell a complete story of America’s Pastime. My efforts to tell this story in an effective and accessible way have grown from creating a StoryMap to starting a Podcast and building a website about Historic Preservation and baseball.
