Abstract

Emergency phones, commonly called Blue Lights, are placed across campus as a safety resource for students. Keeping these maps updated is an important part of giving students the knowledge of where they can access these phones. Data was collected in the field through the use of Mobile GIS, and attributes including location, presence of a camera, and model were collected for each phone. We ran an analysis on the coverage of currently accessible lights across campus and created buffer layers showing the amount of campus on which students have access to phones. These new maps will be available to view interactively by the public, and more in-depth maps will be used by the Public Safety Department for analyzing data for new installations of phones. Through the use of ArcGIS and data point collection in the field, these new maps can help with public knowledge and give the Public Safety Department improved data to work with for future projects.
